BEKKELAGET Sewage Treatment Plant Sludge Treatment Project in Oslo, Norway
Bekkelaget Sewage Treatment Plant is
located in Oslo Fjord area, Norway. It is the second largest wastewater treatment
plant in Norway, designed for 350,000 PE in the Oslo region and treating
120,000 tons of sewage per day. The sewage sludge is anaerobic treated at this
plant. Digestion is carried out in two digesters with a total volume of 8,000
m³. The anaerobic digestate is used as fertilizer in surrounding farms, and the
biogas produced is upgraded and used as vehicle fuel for urban buses.
As a turnkey contractor, Purac provided
services such as process design, civil engineering, equipment supply,
installation, commissioning and process guarantee, and has been contracting the
operation to this day. The sewage treatment plant and part of the sludge
treatment facilities of the project are built in rock caves, while the
administrative building, factory, gas storage tanks and chemical warehouses are
located outdoors outside the cave plant area. Therefore, high demands are
placed on the coordination of the project's economy and environment, as well as
the optimal configuration of the system.
This project help improves the environmental quality along the Oslo Fjord and played an important role in protecting the ecological environment of the Oslo Fjord.
