Municipal sewage treatment
PURAC can provide customers with municipal sewage treatment system solutions, and customize efficient and economical sewage treatment process route according to customer needs. By the end of 2023, PURAC has completed 19 municipal sewage treatment projects in China, with a total capacity of 2.33 million tons/day.
PURAC's extensive engineering experience in the field of municipal wastewater makes the whole process design and every detail show originality. The BIOMEC® (Biological Minimum Energy Consumption) process developed for municipal wastewater is a future-oriented wastewater treatment plant design concept, that uses as much organic matter and nutrients as possible to produce green energy.
The BIOMEC® process is an advanced integrated sewage & sludge treatment process. The design philosophy of this process is to separate more pollutants from the sewage, and to convert more organic pollutants into biogas with the sludge anaerobic treatment, making full use of renewable energy. In sludge treatment system, the high-temperature thermal hydrolysis process can be selected as the pretreatment according to the specific situation, and the high-efficiency thermophilic digestion process is used to increase the biogas production and reduce the amount of dry sludge. The biogas is used in sewage treatment plant by generating electricity. The anaerobic ammonia oxidation process is recommended for the sludge digestion supernatant treatment, which has only 35% oxygen demand and 25% excess sludge production compared with the traditional nitrification-denitrification process, with high nitrogen removal efficiency, and no need for additional carbon source.
In the BIOMEC® process, PURAC know-how and other new technologies are integrated, such as the ANAMET® anaerobic process, the DEAMMON® anaerobic ammonia oxidation process, the maintenance-free MTS® aeration technology for deep tanks, the efficient and maintenance-free heat exchanger, the agitator with very low energy consumption, and the thermal hydrolysis technology that disintegrates the cellular structure of bacteria and enable the sludge to meet the hygienic criteria.
