In early 2014, 500 tons/day Mixed Organic Waste Made into Vehicle Fuel Project was put into operation. The project adopted the Purac’s anaerobic process and core equipment supplied gas to Haikou City's buses and taxis. The contract for Haikou project was signed in June, 2012. The project is located in the Old City Economic Development Zone of Chengmai County, covering an area of 50 acres. It can treat 500 tons of organic waste such as municipal sludge, pig manure, banana straw and municipal organic waste per day. The project adopted the Purac’s ANAMET^® technology. The biogas generated through this project is purified into natural gas after other purification processes for use as vehicle fuel. The daily gas output of the project is 20000 cubic meters, which can meet the fuel demand of 250 buses or 1000 taxis. After drying and volume reduction, biogas residue is used as fertilizer.
